Join us for an evening celebrating dance, poetry, creativity, and community as part of DanceStream Projects' Raising Our Voices project.
6:00–7:00 PM: Interactive dance & poetry activities
7:00–8:00 PM: Zine reveal, refreshments & celebration
Experience an interactive performance featuring New York Memory Center participants and DanceStream teaching artists, with special guest Mark Timmons. Together, we’ll explore how words can become movement—and how dance and poetry can create new ways of expressing stories, memories, and experiences.
The evening will culminate in the unveiling of zines created by people living with dementia across Brooklyn, offering a glimpse into the words, ideas, and creative voices that have shaped this project.
Come move, create, connect, and celebrate with us!
About the project:
Over the past several months, Raising Our Voices has brought DanceStream Projects' dance and brain health work into five communities of older adults and people living with dementia across Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.
Working alongside Mark Timmons, a poet living with dementia and DanceStream's teaching artists, participants have been creating their own poems and translating their words, memories, ideas, and experiences into movement-based language.
The project explores what happens when dance and poetry become tools for expression, connection, creativity, and being heard.
Now, we're getting ready to celebrate—and share—what participants have created through a series of culminating events this December.
We'd love for you to join us in celebrating the voices, creativity, and movement that have emerged through Raising Our Voices.
