Stories in the Moment® partners with communities of people living with dementia to amplify their voices. This co-creative evidence-informed dance and storytelling program, is designed to boost brain health, support creativity, and expand resources for connection and communication.
The program was highlighted on national and international platforms including on ABC7NY News, in the World Alzheimer's Report 2023 and on the Being Patient podcast.
Stories in the Moment® is tailored to meet the needs of people living with dementia and MCI at various stages in their journey, from those who just received their diagnosis to those who have been living with dementia for 11-12 years.
Joining our programs is transformative for many people living with dementia and care partners who join our program. As one participant who had recently received a diagnosis before joining our program shared:
“I came in heavy, weighted down, with the diagnosis. I'm in a far better place than I was when I first started. The condition hasn't lightened, but our attitude towards it has lightened.”
Care partners are surprised that they benefit from the program as much as the person living with dementia:
“It surprised me how much I enjoy it. I joined this for mom. And I'm every bit as invested as she is.”
Since 2020, we have reached almost 400 diverse people living with dementia across the United States and abroad through this program.
Programs continue to be offered online through our longest collaborating partner, the Dementia Action Alliance, as well as local community, academic and cultural partners.
