A Global Movement Toward Brain Health

Dear friend,

Summer is approaching and all of us at DanceStream Projects are excited for several culminating dance events as well as new upcoming workshops with our community partners to help embrace this energetic season! We will be sharing more about this in the coming weeks!

In this month’s issue, we visit Lima, Peru where I joined global leaders this May, to share best practices in brain health and dementia research and identify next steps for our respective and collaborative initiatives.

Here are a few key take aways from this transformative experience:

1. Global societies are not homogeneous - we cannot apply data from the global north to other regions of the world. Individual studies led by local experts are pivotal to ensuring tailored prevention, diagnosis and treatment of dementia for each region.

2. Lived experience matters - those with lived experience should always be included as part of the knowledge bearers in designing local and global solutions to address dementia risk and care.

3. The arts are necessary - in the absence of widespread accessible disease modifying therapies, lifestyle interventions including the arts are invaluable.

I invite you to click the link below and read about more take aways including ways that even a short engagement with the arts can boost meaningful connection as well as a powerful testimony of a care partner on the role of resilience in leadership.

In care and appreciation,
