Dear friend,
Summer is in full swing here in New York City! We hope you are finding time to rest, enjoy some time in nature, and stay cool!
This month, we celebrated World Brain Day on July 22. This day is a global campaign coordinated by the World Federation of Neurology to raise awareness, education and advocacy on behalf of brain health. This year, the theme is “Brain health for all ages!”
DanceStream Projects participated in the campaign highlighting the many ways dance supports brain health, not only for us as we age, but at every part of our lives! Check out our post to learn about the research behind how dance supports social connection, mood, mobility and cognition!
Looking to introduce more dance into your week and add some of these benefits to your brain health? We invite you to join us for several upcoming workshops and events. Scroll down to learn about events in NYC and online happening in August!
We were delighted to meet two of our dear community members at a recent event in Brooklyn!
For our online community partners and program participants, we are always delighted to meet you in person. If you’re in NYC, please join us for one of these upcoming events or let us know when you are visiting!
Social connection and the creative community we cultivate when we collaborate together is central to our vision at DanceStream Projects and also incredibly beneficial to brain health! In this month’s Dancing Into Brain Health Podcast, learn from Dr. Helena Blumen the close interaction and interdependency between our mobility, social connection and cognitive health.
Also this month, we are announcing DanceStream Projects’ Community of Practice! To meet a growing interest in dance and health approaches to support brain health and to cultivate creative collaboration through dance with diverse people living with dementia, this program aims to build partnerships with dance and movement artists around the US and beyond to ensure everyone who wants to can access evidence-informed best practices in dance for brain health. Read below to learn more and meet our first Community of Practice Artist Jenna Wurtzberger!
We wish you a wonderful August and hope you keep dancing!
In love and solidarity,
