The Creative Age: A Global Celebration of Creative Aging

DanceStream Projects artists and Rainbow Stories in the Moment participants from the Queens Center for Gay Seniors in Jackson Heights, New York City, are delighted to join Re-Live Theatre and other older adult performers from around the globe in an international performance The Creative Age.

In Celebration of the UN’s International Day of Older Persons The Creative Age brings together older people from around the world for a unique live online performance.

About the Performance
The Creative Age showcases the rich diversity of older people’s experiences, celebrating different cultures and communities through spoken word, music, singing, and dance. Featuring participants from Wales, New York, Brazil, South Africa, and beyond, this performance challenges ageism by amplifying the lived experiences of older people across the globe.

Performance Highlights

Wales: Re-Live’s Company of Elders will share stories on love and intimacy, the healing power of laughter in dementia care, and using poetry to explore growth and renewal during stroke recovery.

New York: Community members from the Queens Center for Gay Seniors will debut an original dance, “Let’s Move the World”, celebrating inclusivity and resilience, choreographed with DanceStream Projects artists Magda Kaczmarska and Hilary Brown-Istrefi.

Music for “Let’s Move the World” was composed by Marty Laster. DanceStream Projects thanks Jacqueline Savage and Michael Laster for sharing your husbands’ and your dad’s music with us. We are grateful for the beauty of his musical compositions to carry us in our collective dance!

Brazil: Older adults living with aphasia will perform therapeutic clowning, using humour and nonverbal expression to support emotional well-being.

South Africa: The Abahlali Base Freedom Park Elders Soup Kitchen group will perform songs, celebrating intergenerational connections, and community wellbeing.
